CRTA improves citizens’ political culture and builds democratic society in Serbia by developing, promoting and advocating for accountability. CRTA also maintains as priority to empower citizens’ active participation through information sharing and education about work and responsibilities of public officials and institutions. Its current projects strive to bridge the gap between institutions and citizens by assisting their communication and promoting transparency in institutions’ work.
In 2009 CRTA launched its most known project, the Truth-o-meter (www.istinomer.rs) that analyzes politicians’ and public officials’ statements and evaluates them by three categories - truthfulness, consistency and pledges. The analyses are regularly posted at Istinomer website with the aim to promote accountability and provide citizens a tool that enables tracking of public officials’ statements and pledges.
Until recently, CRTA is engaged in monitoring of parliamentary decision-making and of local budget spending in 10 local communities. Aiming to engage citizens as advocates for accountability of national and local institutions, CRTA projects all have strong citizen outreach component and rely on the use of ICT applications and social networks.
