Loud & Queer is a non-governmental organization, which has been highly active in promoting LGBT advocacy efforts in Serbia. It is recognized as event management organization that has organized hundreds of parties, concerts, film screenings and other events for LGBT people, as well for straight people who support the queer community. The activities that we are most proud of are IDAHO festival, which is held annually on the International Day Against Homophobia, and Loud & Queer Cruising Point stage at EXIT festival.
Mass media hate speech against LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people has been present for years, particularly on web portals of national printed and electronic media. In one of the latest such cases the Appeals Court ruled against daily Press, which published a hate speech article on its web site. Therefore, LGBT Internet users need to network and the community has to maintain communication with media, state bodies (mainly with Ministry of Culture and Information, the Ombudsman, and Equality Protection Commissioner), media associations and media regulatory bodies. Our estimate is that such a dialogue would reduce homophobia in media reports on LGBT issues, improve understanding of the matter by reporters, and ease the “conflict”.
